Abitibi-Consolidated has indicated that it expects to take further downtime during the four quarter. The company is expected to announce its schedule of downtime when it announces its third quarter results. Abitibi is the largest newsprint producer in the world.
The company typically does not take downtime during the fourth quarter of the year. However, due to the continued sluggishness in the newsprint market the company is expected to add to the more than 500,000 tons of downtime already scheduled and taken this year.
A-C took 180,000 tons of downtime during the second and third quarter, and 150,000 tons in the first quarter of this year.Latest from Recycling Today
