Abitibi Consolidated purchased a Bollegraaf HBC 140 F baler for its Gasmer, Tex., recycling facility. The baler will be used to handle about 10,000 tons of recovered fiber a month, primarily old news.
The HBC 140 F is one of Bollegraaf's most powerful balers and, like the rest of the HBC balers, features a pre-press flap that allows the baler to perform at the high capacity required at the facility.
The baler needs to average 40+ tons per hour to bale ONP that will be shipped to mills in both the United States and overseas.
Abitibi-Consolidated in the largest newsprint producer in the world. The company also claims it is the largest ONP recycler in the world. The company has established a program that it calls Paper Retriever through which it is able to collect and process ONP.
Abitibi-Consolidated conducts the program through operations in 11 cities throughout North America.
