Abitibi-Consolidated’s recycling division acquired Valley Recycling, a Chandler, Ariz.-based recycling operation. The acquisition was made to ensure that A-C’s Snowflake, Ariz., newsprint mill would be adequately supplied with old newspaper and old magazine.
The acquisition took place July 24th. According to Mike Keane, general manager of Valley Recycling, the decision to sell to Abitibi gives Valley Recycling the opportunity to form a strong partnership between the two companies.
Valley Recycling is a major curbside and community drop-off recycling facility in the metro Phoenix area. In addition to handling ONP and OMG, the company takes in commingled recyclables from throughout the Phoenix area. Additionally, the company, in operation since 1976, handles a range of other fiber grades from commercial, industrial and municipal sources.
