A-1 Specialized Supplies and Services Inc., Croydon, Pa., has received two certifications from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), according to Ashok Kumar, a director of the catalytic converter recycling company.
The company has received ISO 9001:2000 certification for quality management and ISO 14001:1996 certification for environmental management.
“We went to the ISO because it is a recognized international leader, and we want to be part of the world environmental movement,” says Kumar. “These new ISO certifications, and the A-1 management systems for which they are granted, assure our suppliers and customers, our employees and our communities that we are doing all that we can to provide the best in metals and services for them and for the world in which we all live.”
Kumar also notes that A-1 received the Keep America Beautiful award in 1998 for environmental achievements. “Now we are seeking worldwide recognition,” he adds.
A-1 is a global leader in the recycling of platinum group metals, recovering automotive catalysts from a worldwide collection network and marketing its reclaimed metals to a number of end users. “A-1 is like a vast mine, but better,” says Kumar. “We extract valuable resources from end-of-life products, without mining millions of tons of rock and soil. And we make these resources available for new auto catalysts, protecting the world again from harmful air emissions.”
