“Recycle 4 Georgia” License Plates Unveiled

New license tag seeks to encourage waste reduction.

Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) are encouraging residents to order the new “Recycle 4 Georgia” license tag in an effort to increase recycling awareness throughout the state.

The license plate was created as part of the state’s “Recycle on the Go” campaign which encourages residents to remember to recycle while away from home. The Curbside Value Partnership (CVP), a program designed to help communities grow their recycling programs through education, is working with the state of Georgia in a statewide recycling education campaign.

“Our intent with the new tag is to give people a chance to make a statement and to show they care for Georgia’s environment,” says Randy Hartman, director of DCA’s office of environmental management. “The new ‘Recycle 4 Georgia’ license tag is so unique that we believe it will be yet another way to remind people to recycle, and demonstrate the state’s leadership and commitment to conservation.”

Georgia has the second largest market for recyclables in the entire country, only trailing California. The state conducted a waste characterization study to determine exactly what Georgians were throwing away. The study uncovered that 70 percent of what is currently going into Georgia landfills is recyclable. Under DCA’s leadership, efforts are underway to divert as much as possible of that 70 percent from disposal and put it right back into Georgia’s economy.
