Scrap recyclers and brokers continue to seek new outlets for recycled commodities and increasingly are interested in emerging markets. To meet that need, the Washington-based Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) 2019 Commodity Roundtables Forum will offer new perspectives and insights on the commodity markets and examine “the next boom market.” The annual event which attracts processors, brokers, traders and other scrap industry professionals, is scheduled for Sept. 11-13 in Chicago at the Hyatt Regency Chicago.
“Given today’s rapidly shifting trade landscape, scrap recyclers and brokers increasingly need to identify new sources of demand and end markets for their materials,” says Joe Pickard, ISRI chief economist and director of commodities. “This year’s focus on boom markets will provide expert insights on where those growth markets are going to be, including the potential for more demand here in North America. In addition, we have brought in a number of new speakers to offer fresh and differing views.”
This year’s agenda includes a special topic roundtable, “The Next Boom Market.” As China has significantly restricted its flow of scrap imports, recyclers increasingly have focused on other Asian markets. But, ISRI says, other regions of the world offer growth potential. A panel of experts will identify and discuss the greatest opportunities for scrap market growth.
In addition, commodity-specific roundtables will be held for ferrous, copper, nickel/stainless and aluminum. Each roundtable features experts in their field:
- Barry Hunter of Hunter Alloys in the Nickel/Stainless Roundtable;
- Fred Penha of INTL FCStone Inc. in the Nickel/Stainless Roundtable;
- New speaker Andreas Bokkenheuser of UBS in the Ferrous Roundtable;
- New speaker Casper Burgering of ABN AMRO in the Ferrous Roundtable;
- New speaker Blake Hurtik of Argus Media in the Ferrous Roundtable;
- New speaker Darrell Fletcher of Huntington Bank in the Copper Roundtable;
- New speaker LeAnne Johnson of PSC Metals in the Copper Roundtable;
- Pat Boyle of H. Kramer & Co. in the Copper Roundtable;
- New speaker Karsten Faak of Trimet in the Aluminum Roundtable;
- New speaker Doug Hilderhoff of CRU Group in the Aluminum Roundtable; and
- New speaker Becky Proler of Southern Core Recycling in the Aluminum Roundtable.
Registration is now open. Pricing is $445 for ISRI members and $890 for nonmembers. The full schedule and registration information is available at www.isri.org/events-training/2019-isri-commodity-roundtables.
