New York-based HSMG LLC says it has received a Notice of Allowance from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) regarding its product Protēan, which it describes as a “proprietary bio additive and barrier coating platform technology.”
A Notice of Allowance is not the end of the patent process, but it is granted by the USPTO when “on examination, it appears that the applicant is entitled to a patent under the law,” according to the agency’s website.
“This Notice of Allowance is a significant milestone for HSMG as it substantially strengthens our intellectual property portfolio,” says Samuel Mikail, chair of HSMG.
Comments Lucy Lee, CEO and vice chair of HSMG, “Through this allowance, we can offer sustainable solutions for flexible packaging products like labels and tape used on boxes. We look forward to working with global online retailers.”
HSMG describes Protēan as plastic- and fluorine-free, and says it is Food & Drug Administration (FDA)-approved for food contact.
The company, which is part of Singapore-based Greentech Global Pte. Ltd., says it intends to develop and license its patented additive and barrier coating platform technology to pulp, paper and packaging manufacturers and specialty chemical companies.
