It’s been more than 40 years since Bano Recycling manufactured its first single-shaft shredder, having embraced the benefits of this technology—efficiency, effectiveness and flexibility—early in the company’s history.
“The first shredder manufactured by Bano was a single-shaft, and today it remains the main product that identifies our company worldwide,” says Laura Minotto, sales project manager at Bano Recycling.
Features and benefits

Bano offers single-shaft shredders designed for primary and secondary processing through its Premac, Fast-cut and Fine-cut lines. These shredders feature a patented rotor design in lengths from 3.5 meters (roughly 11.5 feet) to 5 meters (approximately 16 feet).
Compared with traditional shredders, all Bano machines can be equipped with interchangeable screens to control the output size. The machines also feature a pusher to maintain a constant feed rate, improving performance. A removable floor simplifies maintenance.
They offer additional features:
- a mechanical or hydraulic drive system;
- an electric or diesel engine;
- interchangeable and reversible blades and counter-blades for quick and inexpensive replacement; and
- a bearing protection system.
The units are available in stationary or mobile configurations that are offered in tracked, trailer or multilift options.
Not only are Bano single-shaft shredders reliable, robust and easy to operate and maintain, they also are inexpensive to operate and maintain.
Capable of handling a variety of materials
Bano offers a wide range of single-shaft shredding solutions for a variety of recycling applications, including metals, plastics and e-scrap. The breadth of the company’s offerings reflects its desire to respond to the ever-evolving needs of its customers.

The characteristics of the company’s single-shaft lines contribute to the success these shredders have experienced in processing plastic, particularly low-density polyethylene and linear low-density polyethylene; plastics contaminated with iron and metals; and nonhazardous industrial waste and hazardous waste.
In nonferrous metals processing, Bano’s size-reduction technologies offer a range of benefits, including downstream processing efficiencies related to the precise, flat cut that is produced and homogeneous sizing through their integrated screens. Fines and dust are kept to a minimum, as is noise, while safety is increased because the machines eliminate the risk of projectiles, explosions and fires, which cannot be said of hammer mill shredders. The machines’ hydraulically operated rotors are controlled with programmable logic controllers, or PLCs, that level out their energy demands for economical operation.
Tapping into decades of knowledge
When you purchase a low-speed, single-shaft shredder from Bano, you also get the benefit of the company’s knowledge, which has been obtained over its decades of helping customers process varied material streams. This knowledge allows Bano to provide integrated solutions, Minotto says.
The company’s engineering department can design complete plants that include conveying, separation, screening and storage systems, with products and accessories manufactured by Bano or by other partner companies.
