Sims Metal Management, based in New York City, has announced that its North American Metal Division has acquired the assets of Crash’s Scrap Metals, Utica, N.Y.
The Giovinazzo family has operated Crash's Scrap Metals, a full-service ferrous and nonferrous metals processing and recycling facility, since 1953. The facility will serve as a feeder yard for Sims Metal Management’s Albany, N.Y., and Port Albany, N.Y., locations. The current management team will remain in place, according to a press release issued by Sims.
“Crash’s Scrap Metals is a strategic addition to our network of New York feeder yards, extending our scrap metal sourcing into the heart of upstate New York and continuing our efforts to own raw material at the source,” says Bob Kelman, Sims Metal Management president of commercial and business development, North America.
“The acquisition of a well-run family-owned business fits very well with our growth strategy,” he continues. “We are focused on finding operations that have the same high standards of safety, integrity and service that our customers and suppliers value. We couldn’t be more pleased to be welcoming the Giovinazzo’s into the Sims Metal Management family,” Kelman says.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
