Republic Services Nears Groundbreaking on Recycling Facility in Las Vegas

Republic Services is expected to hold a groundbreaking for a 50,000-square-foot facility in North Las Vegas this summer. When the construction is complete, early next year, Republic is expected to see a significant increase in the amount of industrial and commercial material it will be able to process.

The facility is being located adjacent to the company’s existing 80,000-square-foot facility. The present facility operates two lines, one capable of handling commingled residential material, while the second line processes industrial and commercial material.

Republic also operates a transfer station in the area.

When the new facility is complete and fully operational, Republic expects to process between 10,000-15,000 tons of material a month, primarily industrial generated material. Presently, Republic’s processing capabilities are around 6,000 tons per month of recyclables.

Robert Coyle, Vice President of Government Affairs for Republic Services of Southern Nevada, notes that the company is taking the steps to ramp up its recycling efforts due to greater interest by residents in the area. “Customers are looking to go green, and we will be prepared to handle the material,” Coyle says.

The company services about 510,000 households in the Las Vegas area.
