In Memoriam: Olof A. Hallstrom

Olof "Ole" Hallstrom, former owner of Hallco Mfg. Co. and a live floor innovator, died May 27, 2009, at age 79.

Hallstrom recently sold Hallco Manufacturing in light of his declining health. His involvement with the conveyor industry spanned more than 40 years.

Born in 1929, Hallstrom grew up in Tillamook County, Ore., on a family dairy farm and studied engineering at Oregon State University. World War II, however, cut his college years short, as he returned to help operate the dairy farm.

His interest in mechanics led him to invent and manufacture small equipment for the dairy industry, which expanded into agricultural material handling equipment and the development of many patents, among them the live floor conveyor.

SENNEBOGEN 340G telehandler improves the view in Macon County, NC

An elevated cab is one of several features improving operational efficiency at the Macon County Solid Waste Management agency in North Carolina. When it comes to waste management, efficiency, safety and reliability are priorities driving decisions from day one, according to staff members of the Macon County Solid Waste Management Department in western North Carolina. The agency operates a recycling plant in a facility originally designed to bale incoming materials. More recently, the building has undergone significant transformations centered around one machine: a SENNEBOGEN telehandler (telescopic handler).

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary; his children, Vickie, Steve, Cindi, Dan and Penni; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial funds have been established in Hallstrom’s name for the YMCA. Contributions can be sent care of Waud’s Funeral Home, 1414 3rd St., Tillamook, Ore. 97141.
