GIE Media Inc., Cleveland, publisher of Recycling Today, has announced that Chris Foster has joined the company as president & COO.
Foster, who has spent the past five years on the GIE Media Board of Directors, rejoins GIE after serving eight years in various IT and business management capacities in the New York metropolitan area.

Foster began his business career with GIE Media in 1989 upon graduating from Schiller University in Heidelberg, Germany, with degrees in international marketing and international business administration. He held several key management positions with GIE Media from 1989 to 1997, including IT operations management, general manager and CFO.
Foster left full-time employment with GIE Media in 1997 to expand his business experience beyond the scope of the company, serving most recently as vice president of product development for online market research firm InsightExpress. At InsightExpress he helped develop the company’s award-winning technology and had a direct and positive impact on the company’s impressive five-year growth.
In addition to his experience at InsightExpress, Foster also served as CTO for eCommerce Corp. and as a global division director of Attachmate Corp.

IN MEMORIAM: MICHELE RAYMOND
Michele Raymond, the founder of College Park, Md.-based publisher Raymond Communications, passed away in late April after battling cancer.
A memorial service was held May 14 in Adelphi, Md.
Michele founded Raymond Communications in 1991 and started publishing the State Recycling Laws Update newsletter in the 1990s. The company also publishes the Recycling Laws International newsletter and a variety of special reports targeting certain geographic areas or recycling sectors.
Raymond Communications will continue to serve its subscribers and clients under the direction of Vice President Bruce Popka and Managing Editor Kim Leslie.
Raymond is survived by her husband Bruce G. Popka, son Raymond Popka and a brother.
FERROUS PROCESSING & TRADING
Ferrous Processing & Trading LLC (FPT), Detroit, has named Dennis Cebula as its manager of industrial purchasing. He will be responsible for the organization and direction of the company’s industrial scrap purchasing accounts.
Cebula’s appointment was announced in early May by Howard Sherman, president and CEO of Ferrous Processing, one of America’s largest processors and marketers of scrap metals.
Cebula has more than 20 years of experience in Detroit-based scrap metals account management; having worked with the David J. Joseph Co. and, most recently, with Keywell LLC, a large North American processor and broker of stainless and other high-alloy steels. He earned his MBA and BA in economics from the University of Detroit.
FPT operates 12 scrap metal processing facilities in the United States and Canada, processing more than 3 million tons of scrap annually.
