RAPRA RELEASES NEW PUBLICATION

The www.RecyclingToday.com online store is now offering two publications on plastics recycling published by a European trade association.

"Plastic Waste – Feedstock Recycling, Chemical Recycling and Incineration," examines conversion of plastic waste into energy and useful chemicals.

The $124 report reviews waste management options and treatment methods for mixed plastics and PVC--rich plastics. The report emphasizes technologies currently being used or assessed for use on a commercial scale, comparing cycle assessment and environmental impact.

Dr. Arnold Tukker, a trained chemist and manager at a Dutch center for Applied Scientific Research, authored the report.

"Handbook of Plastics Recycling," retailing for $150, describes techniques for recycling post-consumer plastics, focusing on mechanical and chemical recycling and energy recovery.

Francesco La Mantia, professor of properties and processing of polymers at the University of Palermo, Italy, edited the handbook.

TIRES/RUBBER

ARTS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETES DEMO PROJECTS

Clemson University’s Asphalt Rubber Technology Service (ARTS) has successfully completed three demonstration projects using rubber-modified hot mix asphalt (HMA).

ARTS resurfaced existing roads and constructed new roads at the South Carolina Botanical Gardens; constructed a stress-absorbing membrane interlayer (SAMI) on an access road for Clemson University’s Outdoor Laboratory; and paved parking lots and access roads for the ARTS research facility.

According to ARTS Quarterly newsletter, the projects used HMA mixes with PG 64-22 binder modified with 10 percent ground tire rubber.
