Kodiak Acquires KMX Mobile Shredding
Kodiak Information Management, a division of Lynchburg, Va.-based Kodiak LLC, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire KMX Mobile Shredding Inc., Charlottesville, Va. Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
KMX Mobile Shredding offers information destruction services in the Virginia cities of Charlottesville, Richmond, Staunton and Lexington. Kodiak says the acquisition will extend its mobile paper shredding and storage capabilities and increase the company’s enterprise client base.
Kodiak operates three shred trucks and three straight trucks, serving the Virginia cities of Lynchburg, Roanoake and Richmond. It has not acquired any of KMX’s capital equipment.
Kodiak intends to build its shredding business based on KMX’s reputation in Charlottesville, Chris Howell, controller for Kodiak, says, increasing its footprint in the Central Virginia market.
"The addition of KMX Mobile Shredding will advance Kodiak’s vision of a seamless information management solution specifically tailored to the needs of each of our customers: from our certified paper shredding services, secured storage and records/media scanning and archiving to our focus on furthering the cause for sustainable business practices," Zach Shea, CEO of Kodiak LLC, says.
"The bottom line is that this acquisition will reinforce the Kodiak brand as a leader in information management solutions while at the same time offer customers more options to streamline the business processes," Shea adds.
Kevin Martin, the CEO and president of KMX Mobile Shredding at the time of the acquisition, will serve as a consultant to Kodiak Shredding following the acquisition, Howell says.
3GS Makes Two Acquisitions
3GS LLC, which was formed earlier this year in Knoxville, Tenn., with the purpose of acquiring independent shredding operations, has acquired Atlanta-based Southeast Document Services and Safe Shredding, a division of Safe Archives based in Mobile, Ala.
Safe Shredding is certified by the National Association for Information Destruction (NAID), Phoenix, and offers on-site mobile shredding services.
Safe Archives President Bestor Ward says the company has sold its mobile shredding and plant-based shredding business segments to 3GS, but will continue to offer archiving and storage services. Safe Shredding operated three trucks and a plant-based shredder, which Safe Archives will lease to 3GS.
3GS also has acquired the operations of Southeast Document Services, a company providing on- and off-site document destruction services in the Atlanta area.
"Southeast Document Services has steadily grown in the Atlanta market, and I am confident that this will be a beneficial addition to 3GS," Mike Boehringer, CEO of 3GS, says.
Boehringer, formerly of EZshred and Shredding Solutions, oversees the strategic acquisitions and integration of companies for 3GS, while Mike West, managing partner of NorthShore Capital Advisors, Knoxville, a full-service business advisory firm, serves on the 3GS board of directors.
