Salzburg, Austria, will again host electronics recycling event

IERC 2017 will be 17-20 January.

Switzerland-based conference organizer ICM AG has announced the 16th International Electronics Recycling Congress (IERC 2017) will be held in Salzburg, Austria, 17-20 January.

ICM says the annual event brings together more than 500 “international experts: producers, recyclers, equipment manufacturers, recycling associations, standards bodies, refurbishers, non-governmental organisations, regulators and many more” delegates.

Topics to be covered at the conference, according to ICM, include:

  • challenges of the circular economy;
  • worldwide take-back schemes, quotas and challenges faced by OEMs;
  • reuse and refurbishment;
  • best available recycling technologies;
  • recycling of precious and strategic metals;
  • staying profitable as products and markets change;
  • supply chain transparency;
  • methods for countries and electronics manufacturers to close the recycling loop;
  • standards, compliance regulations and controls within the sector;
  • business opportunities and models in emerging markets;
  • recycling of hazardous components such as batteries, lamps, LCDs and mercury; and safety standards for transportation.

An exhibition area could include as many as 60 booths staffed by equipment and service providers. Cocktail receptions and a networking dinner are being planned to “create an excellent atmosphere to get in touch with business partners, friends and competitors,” says ICM.

Keynote speakers in 2017 include:

  • Dr. Mike Biddle, managing director at Evok Innovations and the founder and a current director of MBA Polymers; and
  • Magnus Gislev of the European Commission in Brussels.
