Olympic Wire and Equipment, Newport Beach, Calif., has reached an agreement with IPS Balers Inc., based in Baxley, Ga., to become an authorized dealer for the company’s Conquest Series and Two-Ram Bale-Tie balers.
Olympic is now the authorized distributor of IPS equipment in California, Nevada and Arizona. The company also provides customers with regular maintenance and repair programs, making it the only IPS distributor to service these models in the Western United States.
"We are very proud to establish a relationship with Olympic because they provide full service to their customers, which is extremely important to a manufacturer," says Sidney Wildes, president of IPS Balers. Wildes adds that Olympic’s reputation and integrity "will bring to IPS the level of confidence we are looking for in a dealer."
The Conquest Series and Two-Ram Bale-Tie balers are well suited for large recycling centers and material recovery facilities (MRFs). The Conquest Series, which consists of dual- and single-hinge side balers, can do up to 90 tons per hour of high-grade fiber and paper and as much as 45 tons per hour of old corrugated containers (OCC). The machine’s 72-inch-by-72-inch feed opening allows greater amounts of material to be processed, according to the company.
IPS’s Two-Ram Bale Tie Baler has a patented continuous-baling system that prepares and compresses one bale of material while simultaneously tying and ejecting a second. The machine is designed for high-volume plastic, nonferrous metal, paper and solid waste processing.
Both models feature IPS’s patented compression lid that compacts material from the top, which is designed to eliminate time-consuming shear jams that can hold up production. And both produce dense, export-ready bales of up to 60,000 pounds that maximize space in export containers, according to company.

>> Shred-Tech Unveils New Shred TruckShred-Tech, Cambridge, Ontario, has unveiled its new MDS-15GT shred truck April 2 in Anaheim, Calif., during the National Association for Information Destruction (NAID) Annual Conference.
The MDS-15GT has a throughput rate of between 2,800 to 3,000 pounds per hour and a design that allows for maneuverability on narrow streets and more crowded urban locations. The truck has a legal payload capacity of 6,250 pounds
The heart of the MDS-15GT is the ST-15H shredder, which is cast entirely of aluminum, providing strength without the weight of steel. The shredder features hub knives, high-strength alloy shafts and two all new patent-pending innovations–custom cleaning fingers and a vibrating feed hopper.
The shredder is equipped with the company’s patent-pending Gripper Tipper bin tunnel loading system, which is designed to allow for quick and easy loading of all industry standard containers and protects materials from environmental elements.

>> Balemaster Introduces New BalerCrown Point, Ind.-based Balemaster, a manufacturer that has been designing and manufacturing baling technology for more than 60 years, has introduced its newest product, the Fat Boy automatic horizontal auto-tie baler. The baler incorporates advanced technology to boost throughput, according to Balemaster.
The Fat Boy baler combines power and size to produce a bale that is 20 percent larger than other bales, weighing nearly 4,000 pounds, says King Kelso, president of JMK Fibers, Tacoma, Wash.
The hydraulic system and the oversized charging chamber are the key reasons for the Fat Boy baler’s increased output and high-capacity performance, according to Balemaster. The baling ram delivers more than 461,500 pounds of compression force to the baling process.
Benefits to material recovery facilities and recyclers of old corrugated containers can include significant increases in daily throughput to reductions in operating costs, in-plant handling and storage and transportation and logistics costs.

>> Van Dyk Baler Corp. Completes Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corp. Retrofit
Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corp. (RIRRC), Johnston, R.I., has updated its original Bollegraaf double-line paper system from Van Dyk Baler Corp., Stamford, Conn.
The retrofit includes a large OCC (old corrugated container) screen up front and automatic newspaper/mixed paper separation screens afterward.
To process increased tonnages of OCC, the company also upgraded its Bollegraaf HBC110 baler to a Bollegraaf HBC140 baler with wider feed conveyors.
The installation was finished at the end of 2007 and has been running with an increase in throughput and automatic separation, according to a press release issued by Van Dyk Baler Corp.
"The installation resulted in zero downtime, and we were able to continue to process the material due to a temporary setup by Van Dyk Baler Corp.," Marcel Lussier, MRF business manager, says.
Sarah Kite, recycling operations and program manager for RIRRC, says the company is pleased with Van Dyk and the equipment.
