The U.S. Shredder and Castings Group, Brookhaven, Miss., has introduced what it describes as the "heaviest batch feeder for the scrap and shredder industry."
The Mega-Batch Feeder was originally designed for a recent installation that processes mined auto shredder fluff; however, there are many applications for the feeder in the scrap industry, according to U.S. Shredder and Castings.
Company President Bill Tigner says, "The durability and design of the feeder literally makes it unparalleled in similar equipment that is supplied to the scrap industry."
The Mega-Batch Feeder is designed to accept full loads of material loaded directly from a dump truck. It measures 8 feet wide, is built in lengths from 20 feet and longer and has a 48-cubic-yard hopper. Feed rates are and can be adjusted from 5 feet per minute to 150 feet per minute. The batch feeder uses a proprietary sealed belt capable of handling shred, ASR and waste products and a "kick back" drum to properly meter material. The feeder comes equipped with a motor, power pack and electrical controls.

>> New Caterpillar Service Parts Center Kicks Off Network Modernization PlanCaterpillar Logistics Services Inc. (Cat Logistics), Morton, Ill., a wholly owned subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc., has announced plans to open a new parts distribution center in Waco, Texas. The new facility marks the beginning of a multi-year expansion and enhancement of the Caterpillar service parts distribution network throughout North America.
The more than 500,000-square-foot facility will employ between 140 and 180 people and is designed to increase network capacity and provide primary aftermarket parts support to six Caterpillar dealers in North America. Once operational, the new facility will replace the smaller regional distribution centers in Dallas and Kansas City, Mo., while increasing total warehouse capacity. It will process dealer stock and emergency orders as well as inbound parts.
"We certainly recognize the significant value parts availability provides our end users," says Bill Springer, Caterpillar vice president responsible for the marketing and product support division. "Therefore, this new parts distribution center will help Caterpillar and Cat dealers maintain our industry leadership by enabling quicker order-to-delivery time."
Currently most parts are routed through a single global entry point in Morton. Through this network modernization plan, the new Texas distribution center will also handle inbound processing of parts directly from suppliers. Services at existing Cat facilities in York, Pa., and Denver will be expanded to do the same. When complete, these process improvements will get parts on the shelf faster and improve Caterpillar’s ability to fill dealer orders, according to the company.
Groundbreaking for the new Waco parts distribution center is planned for the second quarter 2008, with operations expected to be underway in early 2009.

>> Tire Service Equipment Introduces Tire Changing Station AccessoriesPhoenix-based Tire Service Equipment’s latest line of tire changing accessories is designed to enhance the stability, capability and profitability of this product, according to the company. The accessories include:
• Floor Plate – Simply mount the CH-23 stand on the floor plate. This allows the user to stand on the floor plate and eliminates the need to mount the tire changer permanently to your cement slab.
• Shorter Jaws (set of three) – Intended to be used with a larger size passenger tire or a very stiff sidewall tire. These jaws prevent the bead from dropping back into the bead seat area on the wheel.
• Wheel Protectors (set of four) – Two mounted and two demounted wheel protectors for use with the Mongoose Tire Tool. These plastic protectors wedge between the Mongoose tire tool and wheel to prevent damage to the aluminum rim.
• Mounting Clamp – Used on stiffer side wall tires, it allows the user to clamp the wheel holding the bead in place so that the tire does not turn on the wheel while mounting or dismounting.
• Mini Mongoose Kit – Includes a smaller center post and a smaller CH-4 Mongoose Tire Tool. This accessory allows the user to mount and dismount small bearing type wheels without actually having a clamp them into the jaws of the CH-22
