AXO ESTABLISHES NORTH AMERICAN FACTORY
AXO Shredders, a mobile shredding truck manufacturer based in New Zealand, has recently opened a factory in Kitchener, Ontario, to supply customers in the United States and Canada.
The company says the models manufactured from the Kitchener factory incorporate features designed specifically for the North American market.
"AXO machinery isn’t new to the shredding industry," Mike Berry, sales director for AXO Shredders Corp., says, commenting that the company is the largest seller of mobile destruction trucks in Europe and Japan.
AXO says it undertook a market survey to learn more about the requirements of the owners and operators of mobile document shredding trucks in the North American market to help it to implement new design features based on improving productivity, ease of use and fuel economy for this segment of the market.
VECOPLAN INTRODUCES HI-TORC DRIVE SYSTEM

Vecoplan LLC, Archdale, N.C., has introduced the HITorc Drive System for powering and controlling shredder and granulator cutting rotors.
The company says it has developed an electromagnetic direct drive system that eliminates gear reducers, belt drives, fluid couplings, motor bushing and virtually all interior wear parts, meaning there is nothing to adjust, break or replace. The enhanced system performance can allow for a doubling of throughput in some cases, according to the company.
Vecoplan worked with K.E. Brinkman GmbH, a firm specializing in advanced motor solutions, to develop the HiTorc Drive System.
"This is truly a breakthrough long sought by the industry," says Len Beusse, Vecoplan’s COO. The HiTorc Drive System is available exclusively on Vecoplan shredders.
"While durability and extremely low maintenance are highly valuable benefits of the HiTorc Drive System, they pale in comparison to the performance features it delivers," Beusse adds.
The new system provides maximum torque under all conditions, regardless of rotor speed, according to Vecoplan. n
It also provides full speed control and the widest speed range available, which can be achieved manually by the operator or automatically through computerized controls linked to sensors within the machine. With the HITorc Drive System it is feasible to network entire processing lines together, achieving synchronization of in-feed and out-feed workflow.
According to Thomas Sturm, Vecoplan’s director of engineering, "Increased efficiency was the original force driving Vecoplan’s R&D engineers in the development of this system, and the results surpassed not only our goals, but anything we though possible. The HiTorc more than doubles the efficiency rating of traditional motors."
"The level of speed control offered by the HiTorc Drive System also enables one to limit the maximum current draw and torque, according to the rating of your particular electrical service," Sturm adds. "This represents a huge benefit with regard to power consumption, enabling shredders to consume as little as half the power to accomplish the same performance."
More information on the HiTorc Drive System is available from Vecoplan’s Web site at www.VecoplanLLC.com.
US BIOMETRICS ANNOUNCES ACCESSQ

US Biometrics’ AccessQ fingerprint identification offers what it calls a secure, convenient and cost-effective alternative to passwords, swipe cards and PINs for controlled access to data destruction facilities and other sites that require such security measures.
The biometric fingerprint scanner mounts on a wall near a secure door. To gain access, an authorized user simply places his or her pre-enrolled finger on the scanner for authorization.
Unlike systems that require proprietary networking, AccessQ uses a company’s existing local area network and is managed from one central location. Companies can allow or deny access using AccessQ’s time scheduling by day and time. PIN code access can be configured for those few exceptions.
"Employees appreciate the convenience of not having to fumble for a key or card and are more confident about their safety," says Dave Delgrosso, president of US Biometrics.
