O’NEIL RS-SQL SOFTWARE
O’Neil Software, Irvine, Calif., has introduced Version 2.07 of its RS-SQL software for records management.
O’Neil’s RS-SQL, Version 2.07, has been designed to reduce the time and effort it takes to access information at a records center.
"The case for records management has never been stronger," says Ian Thomas, O’Neil Software vice president of Business Development. "This new release further enhances the automation of records management, saving our customers even more time and money."
Among the new features of RS-SQL Version 2.07 is the introduction of the new Symbol® PPT8846, a wireless device that has been added to the range of RSMobile-enabled handhelds. The scanner is designed to put real-time information in the hands of record center staff and to offer data capture capability at an affordable price.
The software offers a wider range of bar code symbologies, which are supported by O’Neil’s RSMobile, allowing customers to scan and read a greater variety of bar code symbols. The software also offers new reporting capabilities for the creation of professional reports in a variety of formats.
The PDT3100 handheld scanner has also been enhanced to give readers the option of instant database updates, eliminating temporary files. RSMobile licenses are completely transferable across enabled handhelds, meaning that if a handheld is damaged, the license can be transferred to a new unit.

Publisher Chooses Bollegraaf Line
Publisher Random House Inc. has chosen a Bollegraaf shredding and baling system to help ensure its returned and sub-standard books are not illegally distributed.

Bollegraaf’s North American distributor Van Dyk Baler Corp., Stamford, Conn., has sold the equipment to Random House Inc. The Bollegraaf shredding and baling system have been placed at Random House’s book destruction facility at its Crawfordsville, Ind., location.
The system is comprised of a Bollegraaf HBS 75/1200 shredder, an HBC-20 baler and a series of transportation and storage conveyors.
Random House plans to process 20.5 tons per day of hardcover books, 24.5 tons per day of paperback books and 10 tons per day of non-recyclables with its book destruction system.
TECH SECURITY FIRM EXPANDS
WindsorTech Inc., Hightstown, N.J., has formed a brand extension called QSGI to market its combined products and services following the acquisitions of QualTech International Corp. and QualTech Services Group Inc. The acquisitions were made this May.
QSGI manages the IT assets of Fortune 1,000 and government customers, including computers, servers and mainframes, among other hardware. It specializes in data security and regulatory compliance. The company maintains, refurbishes and resells computer equipment that has reached the end of its useful life cycle.
"The acquisition broadly expanded our client services and produced a variety of synergies between the two companies to help us better serve clients," says Marc Sherman, chairman and CEO of WindsorTech. "Now companies can call QSGI and get a broader, more integrated array of services than was possible in the past from WindsorTech and QualTech individually."
Prior to remarketing acquired computer equipment, the company applies its proprietary Department of Defense (DoD)-level certified data sweep to machine hard drives, eliminating data that might otherwise be recoverable. The process reduces customer liability for data and ensures regulatory and environmental compliance for IT assets, according to QSGI.
The company has also developed software for small businesses and consumers that can be downloaded from the Web at www.eraseyourharddrive.com.
A number of recent regulations have increased the liability of companies and organizations for information on their hard drives. "You can no longer just say ‘I want to scrap this computer or send it to a recycling facility’ without documentation that the hard drive has been properly sanitized or that the disposal meets EPA standards," Sherman says.
QSGI estimates the market for its services at $25 billion per year. The company offers technology services, including data security and regulatory compliance and data center hardware and maintenance. The company also maintains a Data Center Hardware group, which resells refurbished enterprise-class hardware to companies around the world. Its Data Center Maintenance group provides hardware maintenance services and Information Systems consulting to clients across the United States. The company’s Web site is www.QSGI.com.
