ISO CERTIFICATION CATALYST FOR PERFORMANCE

Daewoo Heavy Industries America Corp., Warrensville Heights, Ohio, says achieving ISO 9001 certification has resulted in noticeable operating improvements. “It is difficult to precisely quantify the effects of ISO 9001 registration,” says Y.C. Kim of the quality control team, “but we can say that the standardization resulting from ISO 9001 registration has contributed to the company’s ability to satisfy customers.”

The company says one area of noticeable improvement has been in the reduced time for new products to come to market. Before the ISO certification, it took as long as 44 months to market a new truck model. In 1999 the average time to market a new lift truck model was trimmed to an average of 19 months.

The company has also handled fewer warranty claims since the guidelines took effect.

BOLLEGRAAF SINGLE-STREAM SYSTEM INSTALLED BY VAN DYK

Van Dyk Baler Corp., Stamford, Conn., has installed a Bollegraaf single-stream MRF system at Potential Industries in Los Angeles.

The system, which can sort materials at a rate of 20 tons per hour, consists of a series of screens that separates old newspapers (ONP) from the rest of the stream and then separates the remaining fiber from containers while also isolating broken glass and other contaminants.

Van Dyk Baler is touting the system’s small footprint, noting that all the equipment has been placed in a 20,000 square foot building that still has room for a sizable tipping floor and for a second parallel processing line should expansion be needed in the future.

Materials processed through the system are baled in a Bollegraaf HBC-110F baler.
