The Stockholm-based metals and mining company Boliden has officially opened its new electronics recycling plant at its Rönnskär copper smelter in Sweden. The company invested $182 million on the project, which is expected to increase the smelter’s capacity to 120,000 metric tons per year. Boliden says the new capacity will make the company the global leader in electronics recycling.
The expansion began in 2010, and the smelting of obsolete electronics began in January 2012.
Roger Sundqvist, Rönnskär general manager, says, "Boliden Rönnskär has for many years been a technological leader in the field of recycling electronics. This expansion takes advantage of our extensive experience in recycling electronics and enhances our competitive position in a growing market.”
