RETAIL (RECYCLING) MADNESS
Two Southeastern retailers have received the America’s Marketplace Recycles! award from the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for outstanding efforts and achievements to conserve resources, recycle and purchase recycled content products at their retail locations.

Office Depot of Delray Beach, Fla., and the Quintard Mall in Oxford, Ala., were recognized with America’s Marketplace Recycles! awards.
Office Depot iwas recognized as Outstanding National Retailer for its company-wide electronics recycling effort that included efforts at more than 850 stores. In seven weeks, this program collected more than 10 million pounds of electronics. Approximately 5,000 of Office Depot’s employees helped handle all of the incoming electronics.

The America’s Marketplace Recyles! awards program was designed to increase public awareness of the benefits of recycling and featured seven categories to fully encompass the diverse nature of the shopping center industry. The featured categories are Best New Recycling Program; Best Expansion of an Existing Recycling Program; Outstanding Retailer; Outstanding Mall Owner/Developer; Best Public Awareness Campaign/Promotional Event; Best Community Partnership/Beneficial Use of Funds; and Most Innovative Recycling Program. GET CAUGHT RECYCLING
Philadelphia residents who are caught recycling by street teams from local radio stations will be rewarded for their efforts as part of an incentive program to increase residential recycling participation.
To be eligible for awards, Philly residents’ must sport a "Recycling Pays" decal on their recycling bins or buckets. If a member of the WDAS or Power 99 FM Street Teams spots the decal on a resident’s full recycling bin on recycling day, the resident could win concert tickets, movie passes, CDs, t-shirts or even a Caribbean vacation.
The incentive program is part of an integrated community outreach and advertising program that includes recycling rallies and a regional school recycling competition.
This Aluminum Bud is For You

Anheuser-Busch Cos., St. Louis, has begun a national rollout of Budweiser in aluminum bottles during May, according to a report in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
The 16-ounce aluminum containers have previously been used for the company’s Michelob family of beers, but the flagship Budweiser brand gets its turn this spring.
On a unit basis, the aluminum containers cost more to make than glass bottles, but the brewing company is hopeful the distinct aluminum bottle will catch the attention of Budweiser drinkers at clubs and bars.
Anheuser-Busch has done limited test marketing of the Budweiser aluminum bottles and also uses them for its Michelob, Michelob Light and Anheuser World Select brands.
The company will offer the aluminum bottles nationally in bars, restaurants and clubs, as well as at some convenience stores, according to the Anheuser-Busch Web site.
"Our new aluminum bottles gives consumers what they want—cool packaging to complement their image and style," Rick Leininger, Michelob Brands director, says. "This sleek and sophisticated bottle fills the need for beer drinkers in certain settings like upscale bars and clubs."
Aluminum should also keep the beer cooler for a longer time, according to the company.
