AFCO to open aluminum plant in Illinois

AFCO Industries, an Alexandria, Louisiana-based maker of aluminum components for the manufacturing industry, has announced plans to open an aluminum production plant in Olmsted, Illinois. The facility is being supported with financial assistance from the state of Illinois.

“We are grateful for AFCO’s commitment to southern Illinois,” says Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn. “Manufacturers like AFCO are major contributors to Illinois’ economy and support our local communities.”

AFCO, which describes itself as a “vertically integrated producer of aluminum,” will perform aluminum extruding and painting operations at the facility. The company says it expects the new plant to cost at least $1.9 million and to double its aluminum production capabilities.

The project has been assisted by a $32,500 state investment that includes training for AFCO’s new workers. The investment is funded by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO). As part of the grant agreement, AFCO must create 15 full-time jobs by August 2016.

“Companies like AFCO are helping Illinois make a comeback by investing in our local communities,” says DCEO Director Adam Pollet. “With our assistance, AFCO will be able to open its new facility and provide job opportunities in Pulaski County.”
