Weyerhaeuser Co., one of the largest producers of paperboard products, has been taking significant downtime, and aims to take additional downtime through the rest of the year. A source at the company reports that one of the company's paper machines at its Plymouth, N.C., mill will be shutting down from Oct. 15 through the end of the year.
Along with the North Carolina facility Weyerhaeuser recently took downtime at its Valient, Okla., mill, and has been taking downtime at its Springfield, Ore., mill. The downtime at the Oregon facility is expected to carry into next month, and also will reduce total demand for OCC from the surrounding area.
According to the Weyerhaeuser spokesman, the total production removed due to the latest flurry of downtime will be around 160,000 tons.
Along with the downtime at the company's board operation, Weyerhaeuser also is looking to take significant downtime at a number of its pulping operations in North America.
