Weyerhaeuser's Eugene, Ore., recycling facility received the company's highest safety honor, the "Senior Management Team Safety Excellence Award," in recognition of best-in-class safety procedures and operating five years without a lost-time accident.
Only 29 of Weyerhaeuser's 400 operations throughout the world have received the award since it was established five years ago.
"This milestone demonstrates employee commitment to safety as our number one priority," said Wayne Jackson, the facility's general manager. "I'm extremely proud of our safety accomplishment, especially given the fact we have doubled our recycling volume in the last four years. Our employees have mastered the use of safety processes, improvement ideas, and information sharing to ensure safe actions, attitudes and behaviors."
Eugene Recycling collects and processes approximately 5,000 tons per month of used paper and cardboard.
