Waste Industries, Inc. has
closed an acquisition with Allied Waste Industries Inc. to acquire commercial
routes in Memphis and Nashville, Tenn.; Augusta, Ga.; Pensacola, Fla.; and
Norfolk, Va. The acquisition adds about 3,640 customers representing
approximately $7.3 million of annual revenue to Waste Industries customer base.
``We are very glad that Allied selected our proposal to acquire this business which is a divestiture required by the U.S. Department of Justice. Most of the customers acquired improve our density on existing routes. We will continue to use Allied's landfills therefore they should experience no loss of tonnage. This deal is a win-win for all'' stated Lonnie Poole, chairman and CEO.
