Sonoco Products said it is
permanently closing its Munroe Falls, Ohio, mill April 13th. The
mill has been closed since early this year. It has a production capacity of
around 90 tons per day.
While shutting down the
mill, Sonoco’s paper tube plant will continue running.
The announcement by Sonoco
continues the steady drumbeat of paper companies permanently shutting many of
the smaller and marginal producers of various types of paper and paperboard
products. As the uncertainty over markets continue to bedevil the paper industry
it is likely more paper companies will be shutting down operations.
