Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation has elected two new members, Joseph, J. Gurandiano,54, and Anthony P. J. Smurfit,36, to its board of directors.
Gurandiano, chief operating officer of Smurfit-Stone, assumed his duties on June 1 following the acquisition of Montreal-based St. Laurent Paperboard Inc., where he served as president and chief executive officer since its inception in 1994. Prior to that, Gurandiano was president of the Paperboard Group of Avenor.
Smurfit, chief executive of the Smurfit Europe Division of Jefferson Smurfit Group, plc, Smurfit-Stone’s largest shareholder, has served as a member of the Group’s board since 1989. He previously served as deputy chief executive of Smurfit Europe, as well as chief executive of Smurfit France.
