Riverwood International Corp. reported third
quarter EBITDA of $80.6 million up 14.1% compared to $70.6 million in the third
quarter of 1999. Net sales were $278.5 million, up 3.6% versus $268.7 million the
prior year, due principally to higher volumes in North American markets, and
improved containerboard and coated board pricing. These increases were offset
by lower volumes in the international consumer product and North American
beverage markets, and unfavorable foreign currency exchange rates in Europe.
Income from operations was $37.5 million, compared with $31.7 million in the
same period a year ago.
The coated board segment reported a 14.3%
increase in EBITDA to $76.6 million compared with $67 million the third quarter
of 1999. Total coated board net sales were $250.6 million in the third quarter
of 2000, up 2.3% from $245.0 million for the prior-year period.
EBITDA in the company's containerboard
segment increased to $6 million in the third quarter compared to $3.4 million
in the third quarter of 1999. Containerboard net sales were $27.9 million in
the third quarter, up 17.8% from $23.7 million a year ago.
