The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection awarded more than $1 million in grants for municipal recycling programs around the state.
Seven Philadelphia-area communities were awarded nearly $400,000 to help with the start-up costs of programs, partial reimbursement of salaries and expenses for county recycling coordinators, and partial reimbursement of salaries and expenses for municipal landfill inspectors.

Bucks County received $26,371 for salary and expenses for the county recycling coordinator. Also in Bucks, Lower Makefield Township was awarded $43,650 for its yard-waste composting program; and Quakertown was given $182,250 for its curbside collection program.
In Delaware County, Aston Township received $40,200 for its leaf-collection program; Folsom and Ridley Townships each got $39,935 to improve their leaf-collection programs; and Upper Darby Township was awarded $11,611 for its recycling education program.
Hatfield Township in Montgomery County received $6,726 for the salary and expenses for a municipal inspector.
