The U.S. Commerce Department reports continued strength in the paper stock export market. The most recent figures show paper stock exports up 13 percent for the year compared to figures the same time last year. March, the most recently reported month, shows exports at 732,403 tons, pushing the annual rate, year to date, to slightly more than 9.3 million tons.
Shipments to Canada have once again been the biggest driver for the improved export market. According to the Commerce Department, exports to Canada jumped by more than 26 percent over the first three months of the year, with the annual rate, year to date, standing at 2.76 million tons.
