Maersk Sealand announced that it is adding a
weekly stop in Savannah to its Trans Atlantic TA2 string. This service already
links Rotterdam, Netherlands; Bremerhaven, Germany; Felixstowe, England,
Charleston and Houston.
According to an article in the Savannah
Morning News the weekly service by Maersk Sealand will bring about 30,000
additional 20-foot equivalent units to the port's traffic each year.
Maersk Sealand will be picking up products
including paper, poultry, clay and government cargo in Savannah. Imports will
included beer and government cargo.
Thursday's announcement marks the second
Maersk Sealand service added to Savannah in the past six months. In June the
steamship line relocated its weekly Far East service from Charleston to
Savannah.
