The Alsip mill annually produces 120,000 tons of newsprint from 100% recycled fiber collected from the greater Chicago metropolitan area. The deal was first reported in www.fibremarketnews.com last month.
Myllykoski Corporation of Finland, the parent of Madison Paper, has been in the pulp and paper business for more than 100 years. It has ownership in mills throughout Europe and has a majority interest in Madison Paper Industries in Madison, Maine. Sales and marketing for the Alsip mill will be managed by Madison International Sales Company in Stamford, Ct., and its Chicago office. Madison is the North American representative for 15 mills including Myllykoski, Metsa-Serla, M.D. Paper and Madison Paper Industries.
Plans call for improvements to be made to the recycled newsprint products. Additionally, plans will be developed for additional improvements and modernization of the facility.
