The PaperSort combines mechanical screening and conveying systems with high-speed optical sensors, spreading out paper in a single layer on a 1,200 ft/min high-speed conveyor.
After introducing the PaperSort technology to the public in June 1999, the second-generation MultiGrade sensor, which is capable of distinguishing and targeting a variety of paper grades, was introduced at the Weyerhaeuser Baltimore plant in February 2000.
"The benefits of the system are improved bale purity and consistency and significant reduction in manual labor," Michael Grubbs, MSS special projects manager said in a release.
Whereas the first sensor generation was specifically targeted to high-grade applications, MSS has applied MultiGrade sensor technology to different residential streams. Performance characteristics for these applications of the PaperSort system will be presented at the conference in Atlanta.
The Paper Recycling 2000 Show is being sponsored by the Recycling Today Media Group and will take Place at the Grand Hyatt in Buckhead June 25-27.
