Jefferson Smurfit Group Plc. agreed to buy Neopac A/S giving Smurfit a 17 percent share of the Danish corrugated paper market.
Smurfit will buy Denmark-based Neopac from Swedish tissue maker Svenksa
Cellulosa Ab. The acquisition must be approved by European Union regulators.
The proposed acquisition ``represents further progress towards the development of a fully integrated European containerboard system,'' Tony Smurfit, head of Smurfit's European unit. It is also the company's ``first direct entry into the Danish market,'' he added.
