Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers is in vigorous pursuit of plans and programs aimed at increasing production capacity, improving quality of the existing products and enhancing its overall operations. The Indian paper company has successfully operated a number of paper machines. The company owns and operates one of the world's largest bagasse based paper mills located in Southern India. The plant is designed for a nominal capacity of 180,000 metric tons of newsprint a year using bagasse as the principal raw material.
The company announced that its mill development plan seeking to improve the performance of one paper machine is expected to be complete by October. When the renovation is complete, capacity will increase to 92,000 metric tons. The company also is implementing an expansion plan to increase the output of hardwood pulp to 120 metric tons per day. The ability to increase pulp production, the company feels, will lessen its dependence on importing pulp as a raw material.
