Georgia-Pacific announced plans to invest $17 million to improve the operations at its Port Edward, Wis. Mill.
The plant is projected to begin operating in October 2001 and would add 22 workers to the 1,600 already employed between the two G-P mills in Port Edwards and Nekoosa. Currently, the mill buys the wood chips it uses.
The company also has committed to spending about $7 million in the next two years on related upgrades of the Port Edwards digester and environmental equipment.
