Fort James Corp. and Whirley Industries, Inc., Warren, Pa., signed a letter of intent providing for Fort James' purchase of Whirley's plastic thermoforming operation located in Sandusky, Ohio. The purchase is expected to be completed in the fall. )
The Sandusky facility produces thermoformed plastic cups, lids and food containers. The operation employs approximately 300 people and contains graphic design and printing capabilities in addition to its in-line thermoforming. Following the closing, the plant will be added to Fort James' Dixie business, expanding the company's plastic thermoforming production by approximately 25 percent.
