Georgia-Pacific Corp., International Paper and Weyerhaeuser Co. committed $51 million to establish forestexpress.com as a global business to business electronic marketplace. Four other companies -- Boise Cascade, Louisiana Pacific, Mead and Willamette are evaluating joining the market as strategic partners.
ForestExpress will function as an independent company with its own management. The site expects to debut by the fourth quarter of the year. Initial areas of focus will be building materials, printing and writing papers, recovered fiber and timber, with additional areas of e-commerce to be added later.
The site may be accessed at www.forestexpress.com.
