Florida’s new fiscal budget,
proposed by Governor Jeb Bush, is looking to cut the budget allocated for
recycling from $23 million to $14 million, roughly a 38 percent reduction in
the funds geared toward solid waste and recycling grants.
The new fiscal budget, still to be
debated by the Florida’s House and Senate, will likely have a resolution by the
end of next month.
The budget, if cut, would create
some difficulties for smaller counties that rely more heavily on state funds to
develop markets for recyclables, especially hard to recycle materials.
Many observers say city and county
governments are already being pinched by other state government cuts, so they
wouldn't be as willing to put money into recycling programs.
