p>The export of recovered fiber posted a
strong jump for August, according to the U.S. Commerce Department. For the
month exports stand at 978,000 tons, a sharp increase from the previous month,
when paper stock exports totaled slightly more than 800,000 tons.
The figures for the month pushed the annual
export total, on an annual rate, year to date, to 10.1 million tons, a 26.3
percent improvement from last year.
While total exports have strengthened this year, Canadian sources continue to be the largest destination for the commodity. For August, Canada imported 274,000 tons of recovered fiber from the United States with a value of more than $33 million. On an annual rate, year to date, exports of recovered fiber from the United States to Canada stand at 2.952 million tons, a 35 percent improvement from last year.
