Columbia Paper, a Chicago paper stock brokerage company was acquired by two officers of Down to Earth Recycling, a Northbrook, Ill., brokerage company. The two officers, Jackie Chiaviello and Kim Kirkegaard, made the acquisition this past Friday, Oct. 13th. The goal of the acquisition is to grow the business, according to Chiaviello. The acquisition had been rumored for several weeks. Columbia Paper, a 10-person staff, has been renamed Columbia Paper LLC. It will remain a separate operation from Down to Earth Recycling.
Columbia Paper carved out a niche as a brokerage office with a focus on working with waste haulers in the Midwest. Down to Earth Recycling targets smaller operations.
In addition to paper, the companies handle some plastics and metals.
