Canon U.S.A., Inc. will present its program for reducing more than two tons of solid waste when it hosts the seventh annual tri-state Environmental Protection Agency Waste Wise meeting at its Lake Success, New York headquarters. Canon U.S.A. has established specific goals for waste prevention, recycling and ``green procurement'' for all of its offices in the United States, Canada, Mexico and South America. In 1999, the company recycled more than 3.7 million pounds of materials, including paper, plastics, metals, wood and electronics, a 40 percent increase in the amount of materials recycled in 1998. Canon's Waste Wise goals for the next three-to-five years call for increasing the amount of recycled materials to include scrap metals, cd-rom/diskettes/videotapes; fluorescent lamps and carpet.
The EPA launched WasteWise as a voluntary partnership program designed to help implement practical methods for reducing municipal solid waste.
