Smurfit Newsprint, the
recycled newsprint operation in Pomona, Calif., owned by Jefferson Smurfit
Group, is for sale. Smurfit, which is looking to reduce debt and raise money to
buy back shares is reportedly seeking around $125 million for the mill.
The move follows a path by
Jefferson Smurfit Group to divest itself of operations that no longer fit in
with the company’s strategic core operations.
The mill, which produces
around 150,000 tons of recycled newsprint a year, has been on the market for
several months, according to local press reports. So far there haven’t been any
signs of a potential buyer for the mill.
