Boise Cascade Corp. said its profit for the
fourth quarter will be less than forecasted. The company attributed soaring
energy costs as the main reason for the expected miss.
According to the company, cold weather and
power shortages have caused energy prices to increase. Power prices in the U.S.
Northwest, where Boise Cascade has two paper mills, are almost 10 times higher
than a year ago. Boise Cascade's costs for electricity, fuel, natural gas and
other energy sources will be $15 million to $20 million higher in the fourth
quarter than in the third quarter, the company said.
