Since this
September 650 tons of aseptic cartons have been collected for recycling in
Canada through an arrangement with the largest aseptic carton manufacturer and
two Canadian paper companies.
Tetra Pak Canada,
in partnership with Atlantic Packaging Products Ltd., Scarborough, Ontario, and
Greencoast Papermill, a division of Crown Packaging, have been recycling the
cartons through ambitious programs through most of Canada since this fall.
A total of about
59 million aseptic packages have been collected for recycling since the
programs began.
Atlantic Packaging
has been collecting the cartons from the eastern provinces since September. The
paper company has been recycling the containers into paper towels and tissue
products.
Greencoast, which
started collecting the containers in October, has been recycling the aseptic
containers into recycled paperboard products. The mill has been pulling the
aseptic cartons from Alberta and British Columbia.
Before starting
the partnerships with Atlantic Packaging and Greencoast, Tetra Pak cartons in
Canada were collected and shipped to various facilities in the United States.
