BFI Canada said it bought the remaining assets of Browning-Ferris Industries Ltd. as well as the right to use the BFI name and logo in Canada in a licensing agreement. Terms were not disclosed and the company said only that "certain Canadian financial institutions, led by NB Capital Partners Inc., a Toronto-based merchant bank, provided financing for the transaction."
The acquisition makes the company the second largest solid-waste management firm in Canada, said chief executive Keith Carrigan in a release.
The company will have waste collection, transfer and recycling operations in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec, and landfill sites in Calgary, Winnipeg and Montreal, he added.
