The Brussels-based Bureau of International Recycling’s (BIR) Ferrous Division board appointed Gregory Schnitzer as its new divisional president.
Schnitzer serves as the vice president of ferrous sales at Oregon-based Schnitzer Steel Industries and has been with the company since 2003. According to BIR, Schnitzer became active on the Ferrous Division board in 2010.
As BIR Ferrous Division president, Schnitzer is a member of the BIR Executive Committee and serves as vice president of the organization, BIR reports.
BIR President Ranjit Baxi says Schnitzer’s vision and experience will be a great asset to BIR and its leadership. He also thanks Tom Bird of Hong Kong-based Chiho Environmental Group Ltd. for having served as interim president of the BIR Ferrous Division for the past year.
Schnitzer’s appointment was recommended to the divisional board by the division’s Nominating Committee under the chairmanship of Ruggero Alocci, owner of Italy-based Alocci Rappresentanze Industriali. BIR reports that the appointment will be formally endorsed by the delegates at the next divisional plenary meeting in 2019 in Singapore.
