Domestic UBC Recycling Rate Reaches 57.4 Percent in 2009

Figure is highest recycling rate for beverage containers in the U.S.

Associations note that 55.5 billion aluminum beverage cans were recycled in the United States last year.
The Aluminum Association, the Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI) and the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) have jointly reported that the domestic recycling rate for Used Beverage Cans (UBCs) last year reached 57.4 percent.

In a release announcing the figure, the associations note that the figure is the highest recycling rate of any beverage container in the United States. Last year, a total of 55.5 billion UBCs were recycled, close to 2.3 billion more than the prior year.
