UN Group Accepting Applications for Electronic Scrap Program

3/11/2010

Program will run from late August through early September.

The United Nations University, which is hosting the Secretariat of the Solving the E-Waste Problem (StEP) Initiative, is inviting applications for the second NVMP-StEP E-waste Summer School 2010.

Graduate and post doctoral students currently conducting research on electronic scrap and related areas are invited to apply for the school, which will be held in Eindhoven, Netherlands and Hoboken, Belgium from Aug. 29-Sept. 8, 2010.

The theme for the summer school is “Enabling Sustainable EEE Cycles.” The program includes a mix of student presentations, lectures, group work and study tours. The program will provide participants with a platform to share knowledge, interact with experts and gain a better understanding of the electronic scrap industry.

The E-waste Summer School is sponsored by NVMP, the Dutch compliance scheme, as well as Philips Consumer Lifestyle and Umicore Precious Metals Refining. It is organized by the United Nations University, with support from EMPA and Technical University Braunschweig.

The deadline for applications is April 30. Visit the website at http://www.step-initiative.org/index.php for further information or contact the summer school team at summerschool@step-initiative.org in case of any questions or clarifications.
